Round 13 saw Helensburgh sides back in one-day action across the grades, with a mix of hard-fought contests, strong individual performances, and one well-earned win to cap off the weekend
First Grade
One Day Match – Round 13 vs Keira
Keira won the toss and elected to bat, posting a competitive 8/215 from their 50 overs. The Helensburgh bowlers worked hard on a steady wicket, with Will Hoy leading the way with an impressive 3/37 from 10 overs. Luke Falkiner backed that up nicely, claiming 2/19 from 7 overs, while first grade debutant Liam Burrill enjoyed a memorable introduction, picking up 1/25 from 6 overs.
In reply, Helensburgh battled but were ultimately dismissed for 142 in 45 overs. Luke Falkiner showed good resistance with the bat, top-scoring with 30, while Lyndon James contributed 19. Despite the result not going our way, there were encouraging signs with both bat and ball against a strong Keira outfit.
Second Grade
One Day Match – Round 13 vs Keira
Keira again won the toss and chose to bat, but Helensburgh’s bowlers kept things tight, dismissing the visitors for 150 in 45.5 overs. Brett Morris bowled with control to finish with 2/15 from 10 overs, while Mark Cottom produced a damaging spell of 2/6 from just 3 overs.
Chasing a manageable target, Helensburgh were bowled out for 133 in 47.2 overs. Anthony Arena led the scoring with 26, supported by Warren Craig who added 24. A close contest throughout, but unfortunately the chase just fell short.
Third Grade
One Day Match – Round 13 vs Keira Black
Helensburgh won the toss and elected to bat, posting a competitive 181 all out from 45 overs. Kaiden Wildey anchored the innings superbly with a well-made 51, while Will Muller provided valuable support with 28.
Keira Black chased down the target, finishing on 5/182 in 39.3 overs. The bowlers fought hard, with Logan Ackerman taking 2/11 from 5 overs and Finn Stewart contributing 2/41 from 9 overs, but the visitors managed to get over the line.
Fourth Grade
One Day Match – Round 13 vs University
Fourth Grade produced the highlight of the weekend with a strong team performance against University. University won the toss and elected to bat but were restricted to 8/96 from 41.4 overs. Geoff Mallon starred with the ball, taking 3/20 from 9 overs, well supported by Scott Baker with 2/11 from 9 overs.
In reply, Helensburgh chased down the target comfortably, finishing on 6/99 in 25.2 overs. Michael Barilla led from the front with an excellent 53, while Brandon Waters chipped in with 21, sealing a well-deserved victory.
A tough but valuable round for the club, with plenty of positives to take forward and a great win for Fourth Grade to build momentum.
Well done to all players involved, and we look ahead to the next round with confidence. 🏏
