It was a frustrating weekend for the Helensburgh Cricket Club, with wet weather washing out both 1st and 4th Grade fixtures. However, there was still plenty of action in 2nd and 3rd Grade as the season edges toward finals.
🏏 2nd Grade – Round 16 - Dominant Win Over Dapto
Helensburgh won the toss and elected to bowl — a decision that paid immediate dividends.
The bowlers were relentless from the outset, rolling Dapto for just 54 runs in 26.3 overs in a superb all-round bowling display.
Bowling Highlights:
Brett Morris – 4/16 (10 overs)
Liam Burrill – 2/6 (4 overs)
Josh Holden – 2/20 (5 overs)
Rob Craig – 2/10 (6 overs)
Disciplined lines, sharp fielding and constant pressure never allowed Dapto to settle.
Chasing a modest target, Helensburgh made light work of the run chase, finishing at 1/57 in 13.4 overs.
Batting Highlights:
Rhys Fowler – 34*
Mark Cottom – 15*
A clinical performance from start to finish sees 2nd Grade continue their strong form heading into the pointy end of the season.
Result: Helensburgh defeated Dapto by 9 wickets.
🏏 3rd Grade – Round 16 - Tough Day Against Wollongong
Wollongong won the toss and elected to bat, and unfortunately for Helensburgh, they made the most of it.
Wollongong piled on an imposing 4/337 from their 45 overs, putting the pressure firmly on the Burgh.
Bowling Highlights:
Finn Stewart – 2/81 (8 overs)
Allan Manning – 1/59 (9 overs)
Chasing 338 was always going to be a tough assignment. Despite some resistance with the bat, Helensburgh were restricted to 9/105 in 27.2 overs.
Batting Highlights:
Gavin McGuirk – 36
Rowan Knight – 21
While the result didn’t go our way, there were still positives to take from individual efforts as 3rd Grade regroups for the final rounds.
Result: Wollongong defeated Helensburgh.
