Helensburgh Cricket Club – Round 14 Match Reports

Round 14 saw a mix of dominant wins and frustrating washouts as Helensburgh took on Wests Illawarra Cricket Club and Keira Cricket Club across the grades.

🏏 First Grade vs Wests Illawarra

Wests won the toss and elected to bowl, and Helensburgh were made to work hard for their runs. The Burgh were bowled out for 141 in 49.2 overs, with Lyndon James anchoring the innings superbly with 71 runs.

Defending a modest total, Helensburgh’s bowlers turned the game on its head. Wests were dismantled for just 79 in 31 overs in a clinical performance with the ball.

Lyndon James capped off a brilliant all-round display with 4/6 from 6 outstanding overs, while Will Hoy provided excellent support with 2/31 from his 10 overs.

🌧️ Second Grade vs Wests Illawarra

Helensburgh won the toss and elected to bowl in this one-day fixture. Wests posted 5/186 from their 50 overs, with Mark Cottom (2/19 off 7) and Brett Morris (1/16 off 10) the pick of the bowlers.

It was also a special occasion for Kaiden Wildey, who made his Second Grade debut for the club — a great milestone and well deserved opportunity.

Unfortunately, rain intervened before Helensburgh could begin their chase, with the match abandoned.

🏏 Third Grade vs Wests Illawarra Blue

Wests Illawarra Blue won the toss and elected to bat, but Helensburgh’s bowlers dominated proceedings, dismissing them for 90 in 29.1 overs.

Will Muller was outstanding with 5/18 from 8 overs, while Finn Stewart claimed 2/17 from 3.1 overs in a strong all-round contribution.

In reply, Helensburgh chased down the target comfortably, finishing 4/91 in 18.5 overs. Andrew Ainsworth led the way with 43, supported by Finn Stewart with 25, sealing a convincing victory.

🌧️ Fourth Grade vs Keira Gold

Helensburgh won the toss and elected to bat, posting 131 all out in 38.1 overs. Matt Chaplin top-scored with a well-made 71, while Michael Barilla added 19.

Keira reached 2/44 in 13.3 overs before persistent rain brought an early end to proceedings. James Parkes (1/9 off 6) and Scott Baker (1/16 off 4) were the wicket-takers before the match was abandoned.

A strong weekend overall for the Burgh, highlighted by dominant First and Third Grade victories, with weather unfortunately robbing Second and Fourth Grade of their chance to push for results.
