Weekend Wrap – Senior T20 Cricket 🏏

It was another busy weekend of T20 action for the Helensburgh Tigers, with all three senior grades taking the field across multiple matches. While results didn’t all go our way, there were plenty of strong individual performances and positive signs as the group continues to build momentum early in the season.
1st Grade
The 1st Grade side battled hard in both of their matches but couldn’t quite get over the line. In Game 1 against Corrimal, Harrison Fairfax led the way with a composed 57, helping the Tigers reach 7/112 from their 20 overs. Despite their efforts, Corrimal chased down the total in the 16th over to secure the win.
In Game 2, Helensburgh faced a strong Balgownie outfit, posting 100 before being bowled out in the 18th over. Jack Cattley (27) and Rhys Fowler (23) contributed well with the bat, while Fairfax (2/24) and Ben Hughes (2/42) picked up wickets during Balgownie’s innings. The Tigers fought hard but fell short, with Balgownie finishing on 6/169 after 20 overs.
2nd Grade
The 2nd Grade team showed great determination across their two matches, bouncing back from an early loss to record a tight win later in the day. Against Corrimal, Kevin Read (36) and Digby Haran (17) were the main contributors as the Tigers posted 8/90, before Corrimal reached the target with five wickets in hand.
In their second match against Balgownie, Helensburgh found their rhythm. Mark Cottom (33) and Allan Manning (29) guided the Tigers to a competitive 5/119. In an exciting finish, the bowlers held their nerve to restrict Balgownie to 6/116, giving Helensburgh a well-deserved three-run victory.
4th Grade
In 4th Grade, the Tigers continued to show improvement and team spirit through two competitive outings. Against Wollongong, Scott Baker (24) and Nicholas Mallon (19) were the top scorers as the team reached 79, before Wollongong secured the win at 5/113. With the ball, James Parkes (1/17) and Carter Moses (1/21) both made solid contributions.
In Game 2 versus Northern Districts Gold, Finn Stewart impressed with a composed 40 not out, supported by Catherine Wilson (21) as the Tigers reached 8/108. The side fought hard in the field, with Logan Ackerman (2/13) and Wilson (1/14) among the wickets, but Northern Districts held on to claim the win with five wickets down.
Overall, a mixed weekend for the Tigers, highlighted by plenty of promising performances and strong team efforts across all grades. With more T20 action ahead, there’s plenty to build on as the competition heats up. 💪🐯
