Senior Cricket Wrap – Round 2 Match Reports

It was a big weekend of cricket for Helensburgh across all senior grades, with teams taking the field for double-headers in Round 2. There were some great wins, tough losses, and plenty of standout individual performances to build on as the season gets rolling.


First Grade


Game 1 – vs Northern Districts


Helensburgh 7/135 (20 overs) Luke Baille 22 not out, Angus Leadbitter 20

were defeated by Northern Districts 3/193 (20 overs)Josh Holden 3/39 (3 overs)


A tough opening game saw the Tigers put together a steady total, led by contributions from Luke Baille and Angus Leadbitter. Despite their efforts, Northern Districts’ strong batting lineup proved too much on the day.


Game 2 – vs Port Kembla


Helensburgh 1/43 (6.4 overs) Ben Hughes 21, Shay Brady 16 not out

defeated Port Kembla 40 all out (13.3 overs)Will Hoy 3/5 (3 overs), Angus Leadbitter 3/12 (3 overs)


In the second match, Helensburgh bounced back in dominant fashion, with the bowlers running through Port Kembla’s lineup to claim a convincing win. Hoy and Leadbitter were outstanding with the ball, sealing the Tigers’ first victory of the season.


Second Grade


Game 1 – vs Northern Districts


Helensburgh 7/89 (20 overs)Kevin Read 25, Callum Hockey 25

were defeated byNorthern Districts 3/91 (11.2 overs)Tom Manning 1/6 (1 over), Liam Burrill 1/27 (2.2 overs)

A tough first outing for the seconds, who struggled to post a defendable total. Despite a couple of solid batting efforts from Read and Hockey, Northern Districts reached the target comfortably.


Game 2 – vs Port Kembla


Helensburgh 5/151 (20 overs)Anthony Arena 42, Callum Hockey 17 not out

defeatedPort Kembla 90 all out (15 overs)Brett Morris 4/27 (4 overs), Anthony Arena 3/13 (4 overs)

The Tigers hit back strongly in their second game, led by a commanding batting display and some superb bowling from Brett Morris and Anthony Arena to secure a strong win.


Fourth Grade

Game 1 – vs Wests Illawarra


Helensburgh 8/141 (20 overs)Jarvis Chaplin 41, Nicholas Mallon 14 not out

defeated Wests Illawarra 5/113 (11.2 overs) Fin Stewart 1/12 (4 overs), Jarvis Chaplin 1/20 (4 overs)

Helensburgh started their day with a solid all-round performance, highlighted by Jarvis Chaplin’s efforts with both bat and ball.


Game 2 – vs The Rail


Helensburgh 4/142 (18 overs) Brandon Waters 37, Andrew Ainsworth 37

defeated The Rail 6/141 (20 overs)Jarvis Chaplin 2/25 (4 overs), Cormac Waters 1/15 (2 overs), Cathine Wilson 1/15 (2 overs)


The fourths wrapped up the weekend with another impressive win, chasing down The Rail’s total thanks to consistent batting and disciplined bowling.



It was also fantastic to see a couple of our Under 15 juniors stepping up into senior cricket over the weekend — Digby Haran made his Second Grade debut in the second game, while James Parkes featured in Fourth Grade. Both showed great promise and represented the club proudly.

A big weekend all round for the Tigers — with some strong performances, plenty of team spirit, and lots to look forward to in the weeks ahead!
